definition et explication du concept de bucket list

Dear readers,
Two weeks ago, I turned 26 years old.
This was a good opportunity to set an intention for the year to come, but also to go through my bucket list. To see what I’ve had the opportunity to tick off, and what I still have to discover.
This is the concept I want to talk to you about today.
Enjoy your reading.

So what is a bucket list?

If you’re not already familiar with the term bucket list, it’s a great tool for making your dreams and desires come true. The concept comes from the 2007 movie “Without Waiting”. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, both suffering from incurable cancer, find themselves in the same hospital room and decide to leave to enjoy their last months together.

A bucket list is a list of things you want to achieve in your life at least once before you die. With a more positive connotation, it can be said that it is a list of experiences, of first times.

It can be seen as related to FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) which is the fear of missing something, of missing out on important information or events. Even if this one refers more to social networks and their functioning.

Why make one?

We often associate the bucket list with the trips we want to take once in our lives. But in reality, it is a tool that can be used in all areas, whether professional or personal.
By making a list of things you would like to experience over the years, it gives you a direction, like a compass. But it also gives you a reason to get moving, to take risks and to get out of your comfort zone.

Having a bucket list can also help you to :

  • Refocus on the essentials,
  • Prioritise your life and make the most of every moment,
  • Feel a sense of personal achievement when you have accomplished a new goal on your list.

How to make your bucket list?

A dream that you write down and take the time to think about becomes more than a dream. It becomes a motivating goal that you want to achieve. So to make your bucket list, here are some tips to help you:

  • Dare to dream. But don’t set yourself unattainable goals, at the risk of disappointing yourself. It should be positive.
  • Listen to yourself. What are your deepest desires? These are the ones you should list. Not the ones that others would like you to tick off.
  • Put yourself into action. Take the risk of failing, and of succeeding. Your dreams will not be magically achieved.
